Is it that time of the year already??
Have you ever wondered where your money goes when you pay your dealership and/or service center to get your boat ready for the upcoming season? Below you will find a basic list of actions that the service department at B&E Marine takes to ensure you have a fun and flawless boating season!
How many of you take the time to properly prepare your boat for the upcoming season? There's no better place to invest your anxious energy than boat and trailer tune-ups and tinkering.
Get The Engine Running A tune-up on your engine is imperative prior to every boating season, you'll want to do the annual maintenance in the spring such as: replacing the fuel filter, distributor cap, and rotor, as well as spark plugs. If you chose to winterize your boat with us, we included a Tune-Up package on your Spring work oder to ensure all is working well after the winter.
Check Hoses And Connections We always check all the hoses and connections from your gas tank to your engine. Have any of the hoses cracked over the winter? If so, we replace worn parts at the beginning of the season.
The Blessed Battery Batteries are a crucial component in boats today. They power fish finders, motors, lights, livewells, and the list goes on. During Spring recommissioning is a great time for us to clean grimy battery terminals with a wire, battery brush, and replace as needed.
Working On Wires A battery is useless without a network of wires to transport its energy to the gadgets on your boat. We make sure to check all the wiring in your boat. We always check for loose connections and replace any corroded terminals to ensure it will last through the season. Remember, a working bilge pump is essential to a safe boating season!
Tighten It All Up We might not think of it when we're flying across a lake to get to the next fishing or skiing spot, but boats take a beating on the water. The constant stresses and vibrations of pushing through water will loosen a boat's components, specifically screws, over time. We highly recommend tightening all connections in your boat during the spring. Here's a sample of things that we end up tightening: hose clamps, engine mount bolts, checking belt tension, etc..
Bottom Paint You should always consider allowing us to bottom paint your boat as well as your outdrive once a year prior to your boat going into the water. With the exception of our fresh water customers, boats tend to become a great home to a variety of sea-life such as barnicals, algea, and other undesirables in the salt water. Bottom paint contains certain chemicals that ward off these unwanted creatures, and will impact the hull of your boat greatly if you decide not to do so! Who wants to haul their boat out in in the middle of the season because of excessive growth on the bottom of their boat?!
Trailer Tune-Up Don't forget to check your trailer at the beginning of spring. Start by inspecting your tires, replace worn tires (if necessary) and add the proper air pressure before any outings. You'll also want to replenish grease levels and repack your bearings if needed. Next, ensure all the lights are operating properly and check the wiring, and be sure to check the brakes! If brakes aren't working properly, it puts un-needed excessive wear on your vehicle brakes! Finally, inspect the winch and straps, tightening any loose nuts and bolts, but also checking the strap for signs of wear and tear, replacing if needed. This is important; the last thing you want is the strap snapping when you're cranking your boat onto your trailer.
Make that beauty sparkle!
